From consulting to practical implementation
We provide consultancy across all aspects of establishing lightning protection, earthing systems, equipotential bonding, and transient protection – and especially for new systems, it is crucial to choose the right methods from the very beginning. We participate in the Danish standardization committees S-564 for electrical installations and S-581 for lightning protection, where Electricon has held the chairmanship of the lightning committee for more than 10 years. We have extensive knowledge of the relevant standards, ensuring that our consultancy guarantees compliance with all applicable regulations for the chosen solutions.
When implementing lightning protection on existing buildings and installations, we identify solutions that effectively reduce the risk of damage and disruptions. Professional risk assessment for effective lightning protection
We provide consultancy in connection with the preparation of a concrete risk assessment prior to selecting protective measures. The risk assessment is carried out in accordance with the standard DS/EN 62305-2 and essentially includes a calculation of the expected strike frequency of both direct and indirect lightning strikes to the building and its supply installations. Based on the strike frequency, the layout and use of the building, and in particular the number of people in the building, various risk factors are determined and the risk level without installed lightning protection can be calculated. If this calculated risk level exceeds the acceptable level according to the standard, the client’s requirements, or the insurance company’s requirements, action must be taken.
The risk is reduced in the calculation through the virtual implementation of various protective measures until the tolerable risk level is achieved. If the financial value of the building and the installed systems is known, calculations of expected losses due to damage can be made – and thus the payback period for the cost of the lightning protection system can be determined.
The risk assessment is carried out early in the construction process and is continuously updated as greater insight into the building’s details and relevant systems is gained. When the building is completed, the risk assessment is finalized with a conclusion on the final risk level. To ensure continuous protection, the risk assessment must be maintained throughout the entire lifetime of the building. We ensure that the system is always adequately protected and kept up to date in order to effectively minimize risk.
