Inspection and maintenance

Professional service and inspection of lightning protectionsystems

At Electricon, we place great emphasis on delivering professional service and thorough inspections, where nothing is left to chance. We take a meticulous approach and focus on even the smallest details to ensure that your lightning protection system is in optimal condition and functions flawlessly.

Our dedicated team of experts is trained to carry out inspections with precision and accuracy, and we are always attentive to identifying potential problem areas before they develop into major challenges. We take pride in ensuring that your building’s lightning protection is of the highest standard and delivers the protection it is intended to provide.

The importance of regular inspection and maintenance

A lightning protection system must be inspected and serviced at regular intervals to ensure the functionality of the installation. It is essential that all accessible components of the system are visually inspected, and that all connections within the system are measured to verify that everything is still connected as originally intended.

The inspection must be carried out at fixed intervals in accordance with the system’s protection class, after major changes to the building where parts of the lightning protection system have been disconnected, and after a thunderstorm where there is suspicion that the system may have been struck by lightning.

Service and inspection from A to Z

At Electricon, we take care of service and inspection from A to Z. We handle everything from thorough visual inspections to precise loop resistance measurements, measurement of transition resistance to neutral earth, inspection of transient protection, and comprehensive reporting. Read on below to gain insight into each part of our extensive services. Our dedicated approach ensures that nothing is left to chance and that your lightning protection solution is always in perfect condition.

Visual inspection

The visual inspection consists of a review of the entire building with regard to any changes where parts of the lightning protection system may have been disconnected, or extensions that are not covered by the lightning protection system. This also includes cases where, for example, a new weather station, antenna, or solar power system has been installed. In some cases, where access to all roof surfaces is not possible, a visual inspection may be carried out using a drone, which likewise provides a good overview.

Loop resistance measurement

Our system undergoes thorough checks of the primary electrical connections to ensure that all resistances are in perfect condition, without interruptions or early signs of corrosion. Using specialized instruments, we measure loop resistances in milliohms with absolute accuracy, even in the lowest resistance range.

Measurement of transition resistance to neutral earth

To maintain the crucial connection in the earthing system, we carry out a careful inspection of the total transition resistance to neutral earth. Using the fall-of-potential method, we measure the transition resistance in relation to reference electrodes that are precisely positioned in remote earth—often hundreds of meters away from the installation itself. This measurement accuracy is ensured through careful documentation and verification of the exact placement of the reference electrodes in neutral earth.

Inspection of transient protection

In our lightning protection systems, the inspection of transient protection is essential, as it ensures the replacement of any defective surge arresters. We follow a meticulous procedure to maintain optimal protection and safety.

Thorough and well-executed reporting

Our commitment to quality and transparency is further emphasized through a comprehensive inspection report in which all measurements and observations are carefully documented. Any identified faults and deficiencies are described in detail to ensure full transparency and enable timely corrective actions.
