Office and administrative buildings typically contain a significant amount of IT and other sensitive equipment that must be protected against electrical damage, just as protecting the building against fire and other damage is also important
The safety of staff is, of course, paramount. In addition, there is a need to keep operations running and to avoid power outages or direct damage to sensitive equipment.
Modern office buildings often feature interactive control of heating and ventilation using intelligent technology. This provides a high level of everyday working comfort, but is also highly vulnerable to the effects of lightning strikes—both direct strikes to the building and strikes occurring some distance away.
Lightning air-termination system on an office building
Direct lightning strikes are countered by the external lightning protection system, which consists of air terminals on the roof, a down-conductor system, and an effective earthing system. In this way, the lightning current is conducted around the building and safely into the ground.
Internal lightning protection must ensure that no overvoltages occur on the power supply and other utility lines. This includes, among other measures, transient protection and equipotential bonding.
Electricon has extensive experience in establishing both external and internal lightning protection in office and administrative buildings.
For new construction projects, we can advantageously become involved very early in the process, so that, among other things, the earthing system can be designed in the most optimal and cost-effective way.
This may include various solutions such as deep electrodes, ring earthing, or foundation earthing – or a combination. This depends on the conditions at the site, which we are happy to advise on.
If the building has already been constructed, we can also handle the task. Using deep electrodes that can be installed without extensive excavation work, we can ensure an effective earth connection even under challenging conditions.
